FAN ZHANG
BIO
Prior to founding AwAwDe, Fan had worked in various internationally known architecture offices such as HWKN (New York), BIG (Copenhagen), MAD (Beijing), and B+H Architects (Toronto). She was involved in developing and realizing numerous award winning projects across the globe. Her portfolio ranges from single-family housing, to boutique restaurants, opera houses, museums, office towers, and large institutional complexes. Always believing in the strength of education, Fan is actively involved in academia. She is currently teaching the Admission's Course at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with OAA (Ontario Association of Architects). As an architect and a researcher, Fan is particularly interested in the field of Vernacular Architecture.
Having worked with AyA Kitchens in the past, Fan had knowledge of AyA's wide selection and quality and decided to go with AyA's Cirrus Natural White Oak for this project. The Kitchen is a soft, elegant palette of natural wood and white with hints of black details. The island's unique asymmetrical design is complemented in the composition of the back wall with tall pantries with built-in ovens transitioning to the lower stove area. The island is the centerpiece of this open living space that works both a workplace and as a gathering space to host events. Another standout feature is the pantry wall in the neighboring living area. Storage carried from floor to ceiling ties the open concept room together and the use of black toe-kick adds a sophisticated look while complementing the kitchen hardware and accessories.
